Was hoping to pick up my repaired sails and big board then sail at Hillhead, thinking the JP + 6m combo would be necessary for the wind today. Phoned Andy Biggs in the morning before leaving but GRRRRR they hadn't finished them yet. Left me thinking whether or not I should risk it and waste a day of studying, but thought sod it it looks windy I'll give it a go and pray the 5.2 is big enough.

NW'ly so went to Meon Shore. Arrived just before 11am and it was looking marginal for the 5.2. Rigged it full and stuck it on the Bee with the big fin (feel like I'm cheating a bit still having that Bee....need to sell it but it's a luxury still having it......). Whilst rigging Bob turned up so a friend to sail with.....wasn't expecting to see him so a pleasant bonus.

First run out and back got planing straight away - nice. But then blobbed around for a bit, drifted, and a short walk of shame. Wind was up and down all through the session. For a 30 minute period it picked right up and I had to come in and flatten off the 5.2 and change to a smaller fin. Then it dropped again, so after some more frustrating marginal planing decided to call it a day.

A good session, a bit underpowered for some of it, but spot on during the 30 minute proper windy period. On balance kit selection was about right - the JP + 6m combo would have had me planing all the time but also uncomfortably overpowered in the choppy water for a lot of the session. Some good jumps and gybes. Great to go out on the Bee again mmmm what a nice board it is in the right conditions fast and smooth mmmmm.... (someone buy it, please!!!!)
